Miss University Africa Pageant" (MUA), is a non-bikini pageant committed to promoting and celebrating the beauty and innate potentials of students on the African continent. It also provides the winner with a platform, through the Miss University Africa Foundation, to discuss issues of vital social importance and find lasting solutions, reach out to the less privileged and provide assistance.
Every day they go to work, they have no idea whether they will return home alive. They are Zama Zamas - men who risk everything to go deep underground in South Africa’s dangerous disused gold mines to scratch a living.
Poverty forces them beneath the earth to search for gold. Some will be arrested for illegal mining. Some will die. In “We are Zama Zama”, BBC Africa Eye tells their stories.
The events in this film were captured by an independent filmmaker and acquired by the BBC. The film has been re-edited from a longer version.

🇿🇼GANGO: In a wok, add ox kidney and beef then water and salt. In a separate bowl, clean chicken gizzards then chop. Add to the wok. Allow it to cook for 10 minutes.
Separately, Cut chicken parts and add to the wok. Add water. Stir and allow to cook. Add heart, pork belly and spicy pork sausage. Add cooking oil. Add onions and tomatoes and mix. Add rape, kovo and chilies. Serve with sadza.

🇿🇼FRIED CHICKEN: Marinate the chicken using Madras Curry Powder and mixed chicken spice. Take a full chicken and lightly grill on both sides. In a pot, add olive oil. Chop the grilled chicken and place in the pot with oil to fry.
