Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, his Imo State counterpart Hope Uzodimma, and Usman Ododo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Kogi State, emerged victorious in the off-cycle governorship elections held last weekend. The confirmation of their victories came after a closely contested exercise across three geo-political zones.

In response to the wins, Tinubu congratulated them, urging the winners to focus on the betterment of their people. A total of 46,084 regular and ad hoc staff were deployed in the three states, according to the electoral body.

The elections saw accreditation of at least 126 national and international organizations, with 11,000 observers deployed. Additionally, 80 media organizations applied to deploy 1,203 personnel, including journalists and technical/support staff.

All 18 political parties contested in Kogi, while Imo and Bayelsa had 17 and 16 candidates, respectively. The parties deployed 137,934 agents, comprising 130,093 polling agents and 7,841 collation agents for the election.

To ensure a secure environment for electoral conduct, the police mobilized a total of 92,565 personnel, including 27,000 in Bayelsa, 25,565 in Imo, and 40,000 in Kogi, along with assets such as five helicopters and 15 gunboats. The Federal Road Safety Corps also deployed 1,500 operatives and 105 vehicles.

According to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the elections were conducted in 10,470 polling units across 649 electoral wards in 56 local government areas.

"It is Absolutely Unforgivable that the president of NLC should be treated the way he was treated" - Ezekiel Nya-Etok, Political Analyst.

"Strikes are instruments that you use when all other options fail." - Ezekiel Nya-Etok

"There is something I want Nigerians to understand: There is a difference between Labour and Civil Society." - Ezekiel Nya-Etok

Hosts: Joe Hanson & Olive Emodi
Guest: Ezekiel Nya-Etok, Political Analyst, Abuja, Nigeria

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have directed their members to initiate a national strike starting at 12 a.m. this morning. TUC President Festus Osifo, addressing journalists, stated that the strike would persist until "government at all levels wakes up to their responsibility."

Recall that the unions had previously announced their intention to embark on a national strike on Tuesday, November 14, following an extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja. This decision was made in response to the brutalization of the NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.

Despite the National Industrial Court of Nigeria issuing an interim order on Friday, restraining the labour unions from proceeding with the strike, the unions have opted to go ahead with their planned industrial action. The interim order followed an ex-parte request by the Nigerian government through the offices of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice in response to the labour unions' threat to embark on a strike. The unfolding situation highlights the tensions between the labour unions and the government, emphasising the need for resolution and dialogue to address the underlying issues.

Sky News contributor Kosha Gada has slammed activists for “shaming” YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as ‘MrBeast’, after providing clean drinking water to Kenyans.

MrBeast is building 100 wells that will bring clean drinking water to 500,000 people.

Activists have condemned the YouTuber for his philanthropic efforts, claiming his actions shamed the Kenyan government.

“The other thing about the white male coming in and saving the oppressed, that whole thing, they need to just get out of the way because what he is, is a beneficiary of a unique time and an unprecedented time in history because of the internet,” Ms Gada told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“He is the second most subscribed platform, over 200 million people on YouTube, that is a resource and a power that he has to bring attention to the issue.”
