This is Morocco, the Kingdom of Light. This luminous country that radiates such astonishing energy. Being here feels like a whole new sensory experience. Intrepid Travel gathered a group of five diverse content creators (myself included), and we were sent on a mission to promote the joy of travel and embark on an adventure to explore an unexpected, unconventional Morocco that defies expectations.

The purpose: to see, feel and experience Morocco from an off-the-beaten-path perspective. To go beyond the familiar, lifted by curated local experiences and insider knowledge of this land. From the metropolis of Casablanca to the hustle-and-bustle of Meknes, from the marvellous ruins of Volubilis to the sheer intensity of Fes, from the majestic blue city of Chefchaouen to the cool, artsy-bohemian vibes of Asilah, we were plunged into the extraordinary landscapes, history, culture, gastronomy, colours, music and vibrancy of Morocco.

And what an adventure! I'd like to thank @intrepidtravel & @visitmorocco for this unforgettable trip and for sponsoring this video. I had a blast travelling with these wonderful, inspiring human beings, Yishyene, Sima, Vivienne and Omo, who have all been so supportive with each other. Loved the energy we all naturally shared (and the memories, too).

A special mention to Emme and our local guide Abdellah for being the best people to experience Morocco with! Ultimately, thank you Eulanda for being the driving force of this project, for without whom, this video wouldn't exist. Thank you all for being part of this video! ❤️

Welcome to our luxury travel couple's adventure in Morocco! In this first part of our journey, we spent the first 5 days exploring the stunning beauty of this North African country. Our journey started in Agadir, where we rented a car and spent the first night in the city before heading out to explore.

We visited the Agadir souk and medina, where we immersed ourselves in the vibrant culture of Morocco. Afterward, we embarked on a nine-hour drive to Mhamid, where we were picked up by our driver to take us to Umnya, the luxury desert camp. The camp is located in the middle of the Sahara desert, and we were amazed by its epic, magical, and mystical beauty. We enjoyed camel riding, sandboarding, and delicious local cuisine while we were there. We also took some time to create unique content for our Instagram account.

Our experience at Umnya was unforgettable, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a secluded and unique experience in the desert. After two days, we traveled to Merzouga, a town famous for its stunning sand dunes. We stayed at the Riad Serai, a luxurious accommodation situated on the outskirts of the Merzouga dunes. During our stay, we visited Sunrise Palace, a unique accommodation with the most unique pool we've ever seen.

We then went camel riding through the desert to the Caravan Serai Camp, the first luxury camp in Morocco, where a famous Chinese series was filmed. We had the chance to enjoy green tea on the dunes while admiring the stunning beauty of the desert. We also had the opportunity to spend the night with the local Berber people from the Ait Atta tribe.

Our next stop was Ait Ben Haddou, where we enjoyed the sunset and sipped tea on the terrace cafe at the top. Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been used as a filming location for many popular movies and TV shows.

Our first part of the journey ended with a drive across Morocco to Marrakesh, stopping along the way at the Todra Gorges, where we enjoyed the clean water and views of the canyon. We can't wait to share the second part of our journey with you!

If you are watching this video you know we survived, at least until editing and uploading. But let us tell you this, first year overlanders with basically no skills driving through colorful villages, sharp mountain egdes and loose sand dunes is guaranteed an adventure. Sit back and enjoy the show! THIS is the Rover without Lewie, destination: MOROCCO.

If you want to know why we didn’t take Lewie with us this time watch the first minute of the video, we’ll tell you and show you where he was.

We would like to thank @euro4x4parts for our partnership and the excellent service of sending our recovery gear the day before we left.

Next to that we also want to do a big shout out to our partners in crime (@lostwithlarry on instagram). Their story is worth following: a medical doctor and pediatric nurse overlanding from the Netherlands to Uganda. They are following their dream and starting a new life: working in a hospital in Uganda.

And to all other overlanders and adventurers we met along the way,
@76Overland for dune driving lessons and Mark from Amazigh Overland for organizing the pizza party:

THANK YOU

We have written multiple guides about overlanding and driving the Sahara Desert in Morocco:

About Morocco:

Morocco, a North African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, is distinguished by its Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences. Marrakesh's medina, a mazelike medieval quarter, offers entertainment in its Djemaa el-Fna square and souks (marketplaces) selling ceramics, jewelry and metal lanterns. The capital Rabat's Kasbah of the Udayas is a 12th-century royal fort overlooking the water.

We heard about bad charging infrastructure, bad road conditions, the many police controls, the speed cameras and also that security is a issue. But we absolutely want to go to MOROCCO - with our TESLA and that as a family!

In this video you will find out what difficulties we had to manage with our Tesla Y in Morocco, how we charged there and much more.

And this is our route:
From southern Spain, from Algeciras, we took the ferry to Tanger Med and drove via CHEFCHAOUEN to Meknes and FÈS, via the middle Atlas to MARRAKECH and from there via the high Atlas to Agadir. There along the west coast north again.

We made our most spectacular road trip ever here, over the HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS and all fully electric with our Tesla!

At the moment there are 6 TESLA SUPERCHARGERS in the cities: Fez, Marrakesh, Agadir, Rabat, Casablanca and Tangier.
And we also charged at the local chargers from FASTVOLT.

We also charge at campsites! This charging option has made it possible for us to travel to the remote regions of Morocco with our Tesla Model Y.

According to latest figures, Morocco tourism accounts 10% of total GDP of the north African country. Overlooking the Mediterranean sea with its beaches and good weather, Morocco is hoping it can increase its revenue from inbound tourism, making use of the setback in the sector within its neighbors Tunisia and Egypt. Yasser Hakim has the details.

(20 May 2021) In Hay Al Farah, a low income neighbourhood in the middle of the Moroccan capital Rabat, most young people share a dream: to seek a better future abroad.
Hicham Kacimi, a street seller in Rabat and a father of two, said he hoped to move to a country "where life is better".
He got his bachelor's degree and applied for visas at several embassies to emigrate legally, but all of his requests were rejected because he does not "fulfil" the criteria, he explained.
Kacimi sells vegetables in the street to feed his family, but he still struggles to earn enough to get by.
He is not alone. Official statistics show that most unemployed people in Morocco are under 35.
"Young people are desperate" said Mohammed Ouhaddou, another street seller in Rabat.
"There is no health, no education….Politicians are not doing anything. They are asleep and no one listens to us" he complained.
Since Monday, tensions at the border between Morocco and Spain have increased, with thousands crossing the border to reach European land in one of the biggest diplomatic spats between the two countries in recent years.
Spain says that more than 8,000 people have crossed into Spanish territory in 48 hours, although at least 5,700 have been expelled in bulk pushbacks.
Many of those who crossed were young unemployed men who decided to leave their homes after being left without work since the border was closed because of the pandemic.
Others travelled from different regions of Morocco in an attempt to enter into Spain to find work.
Migrants from other African countries were also among those crossing the border.
Hundreds reaching Ceuta were unaccompanied minors who were crammed into charity-run warehouses for a 10-day compulsory coronavirus quarantine under police watch.
Under Spain's laws, the minors remain under the care of regional authorities until their relatives can be found or they come of age.
Morocco's loosened border watch came after Spain decided to grant entry - for medical treatment - to Brahim Ghali, the chief of a militant group fighting for the independence of Western Sahara.
Morocco annexed the sprawling region on the west coast of Africa in 1975.
Ghali, the head of the Polisario Front, flew into Spain in mid-April with a false Algerian passport.
The border between Fnideq and Ceuta became porous following warnings from the Moroccan government to Spain that it would face consequences over Madrid's decision to provide coronavirus treatment to Ghali.
Over the decades, Spain has built a close relationship with Morocco to crack down on illegal border crossings, but also to increase economic ties and fight extremism.

Philippe is interested in how architecture can provide a glimpse into how people live all around the world. He travels to some of the most unique spots and culture on the planet to see what they have to offer. Today he is heading to the small village of Ponging in the state of Arunachal Pradech, a region in northeast India that is also spread over Bhutan, Burma, and Tibet. The Adi people, called the men of the hills, have learned to both survive and thrive off of bamboo, which is what their homes are made of in beautifully intricate patterns. Next, Philippe heads to Tiébélé in Burkina Faso to see the Royal Court of the Kassena people, before finally ending up at the Westman Islands in Iceland.

The history of Morocco spans over twelve centuries, without taking classical antiquity into consideration.
Archaeological evidence has shown that the area was inhabited by hominids at least 400,000 years ago. The recorded history of Morocco begins with the Phoenician colonization of the Moroccan coast between the 8th and 6th centuries BC, although the area was inhabited by indigenous Berbers for some two thousand years before that. In the 5th century BC, the city-state of Carthage extended its hegemony over the coastal areas. They remained there until the late 3rd century BC, while the hinterland was ruled by indigenous monarchs. Indigenous Berber monarchs ruled the territory from the 3rd century BC until 40 BC, when it was annexed to the Roman Empire. In the mid-5th century AD, it was overrun by Vandals, before being recovered by the Byzantine Empire in the 6th century.
