A dream while visiting Africa would have been to go on safari. However the closest place to do that was over a 10 hour drive. Mole National Park offers animal safari’s but because of the roads it takes too long to drive there. We hoped that it would be closer and while discussing this not being an option, our driver told us we would be able to see wild baboons on the Dodowa-Doyumu stretch to Akosombo from Accra. Being huge animal people, this made us quite excited.
As we drove there was a sand storm and then rain came from nowhere. Riley’s hopes of seeing the baboons who are known for hanging out along the side of the road was starting to fade. But suddenly what seemed to be a random goat walking down the street (something you see all day long) we realized it was actually a baboon! The rain had not scared them off and they were I. Their usual spot.
Excuse all the squealing and laughter, we were so amazed to be experiencing this. Up until this point we’re only seen cows, goats, chickens, lizards, and dogs.
