I don't think "subtle" is the right word to describe any Purge movie, but the first three movies at least had some subtle themes that I discussed in my previous Things You Missed episodes. For this prequel, series creator James Demonaco delegated Gerard McMurray to direct it, and the result was a less subtle Purge movie than ever before.
That being said, there are still some things you may have missed, like the real meaning behind the Halloween (2018) poster in Isaiah's room; the details about how this movie leads into the originals, The Purge, Anarchy and Election Year; the unraveling of the KRXJ News easter egg, the nomenclature of Arlo Sabian, the connection to the 28th Amendment and the Constitution, the 1984 surveillance themes, the use of color and much, much more!
In this video I'll be breaking down everything you might have missed in the fourth Purge movie: The First Purge (confusing, I know). From small details, to big easter eggs, I'll be analyzing the entire story, airing out the mistakes and even interpreting the ending of this film.
