With the fast pace of global technology advances one wonders how the developing world would cope and survive the potential digital divides. The adoption of internet technologies in Africa, which occurred in four phases, is reviewed with its challenges and successes. This reflection informs approaches to mass adoption of other new technologies such as blockchain in Africa.
