Today, Nigeria's Supreme Court is poised to deliver its ruling on whether to uphold President Bola Tinubu's contested victory in the presidential election. This decision comes after two of his main rivals challenged the lower court's verdict last month.
Atiku Abubakar, representing the People's Democratic Party, and Peter Obi from the Labour Party, who secured the second and third positions, respectively, in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, have alleged that President Bola Tinubu's victory was tainted by irregularities.
During the last court session held on Monday, the Supreme Court deferred its judgment on the two appeals, with the announcement of a subsequent date for communication to the concerned parties.
Concurrently, President Bola Tinubu has implored the Supreme Court to reject Atiku Abubakar's request to introduce fresh evidence in his appeal against the judgment rendered by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Tinubu asserted that the allegation of certificate forgery was not included in Abubakar's initial petition to the tribunal. He maintained that the entire appeal lacked merit and urged its dismissal.
