Afa Divination: Togo, West Africa
Gorovodu is the dominant religion of the area and central to the physical and social well-being of ethnic Ewe vodu practitioners in the greater Volta region. "Afa" or "Ifa" among the Yoruba's, is the "vodu" of divination. Based on 256 chapters (du), and tied to one's kpoli or destiny. Afa transcends indigenous strains of vodu, tron, and orisha, and-- is consulted by Christians and Muslims as well. Dr. Montgomery became "Afavi" in 1997 and has undergone rituals, divination sessions, and consultations since.
