Here is our 8th Movie Review and it is another SPECIAL movie review for AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. It is "RUBY BRIDGES" - a 1987 Disney TV movie which aired on NBC featuring Michael Beach and Lela Rochon as the father and mother to 6 year-old Ruby Bridges played by Chaz Monet along with Kevin Pollak (Psychiatrist) and Penelope Ann Miller as the teacher. This was an ACTUAL event that happened in New Orleans in November of 1960 in which young Ruby Bridges (escorted by U.S. federal marshals) to school everyday started the desegregation of public schools in this community and across the nation. Dr. B. and Mrs. B. dive DEEP into the racial conflict and racial reconciliation which occurred during this time period and how this young girl managed to overcome all the CHALLENGES presented to her as she achieved her right to get an education in the public school system. This movie review is also a great opportunity to have a serious discussion with your family members, friends, and younger generation on how our society was in the 1960s and how much our society has IMPROVED over time.
