Mamelodi Sundowns emerged as the inaugural champions of the African Football League (AFL) following a 2-0 victory over Wydad Casablanca in the second leg, securing a 3-2 aggregate win. Despite trailing 2-1 after the away leg, Sundowns turned the tide with goals from Peter Shalulile and Aubrey Modiba at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Wydad initially disrupted Sundowns' rhythm with intense pressing and fouls, but the hosts persevered. Shalulile capitalized on a rebound in first-half stoppage time, and Modiba doubled the lead five minutes into the second half after intercepting a wayward pass.

Needing two goals to win, Wydad couldn't break Sundowns' defence. In a tactical move, Sundowns deliberately took yellow cards for time-wasting in the tense finale. Although Wydad had a chance with Ayoub El Amloud's header, Sundowns held on for a historic victory, becoming the first AFL champions in the league's inaugural season. Coach Rulani Mokwena's strategic plan overcame Wydad's early pressure and capitalised on their mistakes.
