In this film we see impromptu Bata dancing executed by members of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. This dance form as was highly influential in the evolution of Afro-Cuban dance. A significant portion of the Cuban population descended directly from this tribe, and were displaced there due to slavery. With them they brought their music, language, and dance. Elements of Bata can still be seen in Rumba (Cuban not ballroom form), Salsa, and Pachanga.
