Capitalism and Free Speech! Interview with Legendary Activist Noam Chomsky

Greg Magarshak invites the legendary activist Noam Chomsky to discuss the effect of capitalism on news media in the age of internet and social media.

We explore why capitalism and the profit motive has led to such divisive and one-sided news media, and discuss my proposed solution to fixing it by moving from a system based on private ownership and competition, to one based on collective management and collaboration. I bring up examples such as Wikipedia, Open Source and Science as successful examples of the latter. Initial progress can be found at https://rational.app

As a left-libertarian who supports UBI and economies built on voluntary collaboration, I find myself inadvertently triggering people on the right with expressions like "socialism", or on the left with expressions like "cover both sides" and slightly derailing the conversation as a result. I was very glad to have the opportunity get Dr. Chomsky's opinions on these issues, and I hope that later this year we will be able to have a longer conversation, to do the subject justice.
