Check out this round of Conversing on Africa’s Peace, as we take you through the PSC session covering the months of November and December. Before the end of the year, the PSC addressed some of the key country-specific situations and thematic issues affecting peace and security on the continent:
- Key highlights for thematical session, the PSC held its very first session on the role of mercenaries and private military and defense companies in peace and security in Africa.
- In alignment with the New Agenda for Peace, the AU PSC convened with UN PBC to discuss prevention strategy, resource mobilization, and areas of collaboration between the PSC and PBC.
- As for country-specific issues, the PSC covered the situation in Sudan with the announcement to establish a High-Level Ad hoc Panel on Sudan.
- They also assessed the progress and challenges in the implementation the of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan in light of upcoming elections.
- In the final weeks of Dec the PSC will also hold informal consultations and briefings on the countries in Political Transition: Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso
