ECOWAS, a regional bloc of West African nations, have threatened to use force if coup leaders in Niger do not cede power within a week. The strong rhetoric is an effort by the bloc to draw a line in the sand following a series of similar coups in the region in recent years, says France 24’s foreign affairs commentator Douglas Herbert.
