Stereotypes and assumptions about the different roles, responsibilities, needs, capacities and agency of different groups of women, girls, men and boys have a profound influence on the work of border officers. Integrating a gender perspective into the work of state institutions responsible for border management can therefore have a significant impact on the ability of border officers to recognize and respond to the different needs and vulnerabilities of various groups of women, men, boys and girls.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss some of the topics highlighted in Tool 6 Border Management and Gender and feature a diverse panel of experts and practitioners, including:

- Djamilya Kaparova, Founder and Head, “Insan Diamond”
- Olena Vaidalovych, Senior Advisor on Legal Affairs, Fundacja w Strone Dialogu
- Irving Vidal, Senior Border Management Advisor, DCAF (Gambia office)
