Geo-Politics | African Union on the cusp of permanent G20 membership

The United States has welcomed the proposal to include the African Union as a permanent member of the G20.
The African bloc is expected to be inducted into the elite group of nations at the next summit in India at the weekend.
G20 Chair, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in late August also called for the AU's full inclusion in the Group.
Currently only South Africa represents the African continent in the G20.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said they viewed the AU's membership as key to making the G20 stronger.
