How Malawi got independence

The occupation of Malawi by the British can be traced to 1859 when David Livingstone the Scottish explorer and missionary reached Lake Nyasa. Gradually the British took control of Malawi. By 1891 most of Malawi was already under British control and was formed into the British Central African Protectorate.The first commissioner was Harry Johnston.
