I Visited Four Malawian Districts in One Day | Phalombe | Mulanje | Thyolo | Chiradzulu
From Phalombe, Mulanje, Thyolo to Chiradzulu in one day. This was one of the best days on the road, it was bit challenging as we spent so much on the road but the moments were memorable.
Phalombe is located about 44 kilometres (27 mi), by road, north-east of Mulanje, along the T408 Road. Phalombe's location is vulnerable for flash floods, which can easily occur during the rainy season. The most devastating one in recent history occurred in March 1991. Along the Phalombe-Mulanje Road, is a Catholic mission consisting of a Catholic church and the Holy Family Hospital. The hospital is run by locals in association with the Dutch charity Memisa and is staffed by Malawian clinical officers as well as Dutch tropical doctors. Holy Family Nursing College is attached to the hospital.
Mulanje is a town in the Southern Region of Malawi, close to the border with Mozambique, to the east. Mulanje is a tourist attraction and serves as a staging base for climbers who want to scale Mount Mulanje or those who want to explore the countryside at its base. Tea is mostly grown in Mulanje and the view is amazing when you passing the field.
Thyolo is a town located in the Southern Region of Malawi. It is the administrative capital of Thyolo District. Traditional Authority Mphuka in Thyolo District is one of the 10 Traditional Authorities in Thyolo District in Malawi. The Famous Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a public university in Thyolo in South Malawi. It was established on 17 December 2012. MUST opened doors in March 2014. it is one of the development under the late Bingu Wa Munthalika.
Chiradzulu is a town in Malawi, It is famous because it is where the home and church of John Chilembwe is located. It was the site of European farming settlement. The Chiradzulu area has played a prominent role in Malawian history. It was where Livingstone helped Bishop Mackenzie found the Church of Scotland’s short-lived Magomero Mission in 1861. The largest farm in the Chiradzulu area was later bought by one Mr. Bruce, a stepson of Livingstone, and was managed by another member of the clan, Willian Livingstone – who would be decapitated in front of his family during the 1915 rebellion initiated by Chiradzulu’s most famous son, the Reverend John Chilembwe.
The Providential y an active mission with several points of historical interest. It lies near Mbombwe trading centre, 5km east of the Limbe-Chiradzulu road, along a signposted dirt road starting close to Chiradzulu Secondary School. Today, John Chilembwe is celebrated as a hero of independence, and John Chilembwe Day is observed annually on January 15 in Malawi.
