Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicks off a four-nation Africa tour today. The visit will see him travel to Mozambique, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania. Modi is keen to boost India's economic influence in the region

US President Barack Obama says that the country will keep troop levels in Afghanistan at 8400 till 2017. That’s nearly 3000 more troops than originally planned as per the draw down plan. Obama had come to office pledging to end the Afghan war, a promise he has found difficult to keep

3. Colombia peace deal under threat
The peace deal to end Colombia’s decades old civil war is under threat. A unit of the FARC rebel group says it will not lay down arms. It is also calling on other units to join in the fight

4. New space station crew blasts off from Russia
A new three-member crew for the International Space Station blasted off from Russia's Baikonur Cosmodrome today. They are travelling in an upgraded Soyuz spacecraft. During the four-month mission, NASA’s Kathleen Rubins will become the first person to sequence DNA in space

5. Messi to appeal jail sentence
Barcelona's Argentinian football star Lionel Messi will appeal against a Spanish court decision to sentence him to 21 months in prison for tax fraud. The court has also imposed a 2.2 million dollar fine on Messi

6. Portugal storm into Euro 2016 final
Portugal storm into the final of the European Championships with a 2-nil victory over Wales. Portugal now await the winner of the other semi-final between hosts France and 2014 World Cup winners Germany which takes place later today
