Revered cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, has come under scrutiny for statements accusing the Nigerian Presidency of pursuing an agenda to marginalise the Northern region of the country. The cleric asserted that key security and financial positions in Nigeria are held by non-northerners, which he believes is part of a deliberate agenda by the federal government.

Sheikh Gumi further labelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as "SATANIC" for collaborating with the Israeli government to enhance security in the Federal Capital Territory. In his words, he stated, "Abuja will now become like Tel Aviv, and when they see anyone with a beard like us, they will say it is Bin Laden; go and kill him."

These statements by Sheikh Gumi have ignited controversy, with numerous groups, including socio-political leaders from the northern region, condemning his extreme remarks.
