Jagwa Music - Live in 2016 (Tanzania)
Jagwa Music came to VOA in 2016 and performed live with me in Studio 4. I recently discovered the recording in my archives, not realizing that it had never been published. The style of music is called mchiriku, generating from the streets of Dar es Salaam's poorer neighborhoods. Its lead singer Jackson Aluta Kazimoto (aka Dogo Jackie or Jackie Simela) died in 2018 from a car crash in Morogoro at age 33. May he rest in peace.
