In African culture, marriage is not always a union between a man and a woman. When there are no males to inherit, a woman may be treated fictionally as a man and marry another woman. The married woman is known as mosadi wa lapa. When a man dies before marriage, his spirit can communicate with the family and request them to marry a woman for him. The married woman is known as mosadi wa lebitla.
