Interesting facts about Mali. Mali is a West African country. It is Africa's eighth-largest country due to its size, and with a land size of roughly 480,000 square miles, it is the world's twenty-third largest country. It is bordered by Senegal, Mauritania, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Algeria. France colonized Mali, which became part of French Sudan. After nearly a century of French control, Mali merged with Senegal to form the Mali Federation, which gained independence in 1960. Senegal then left the Federation, and the country was renamed the Republic of Mali.
It has two official languages, Bambara and French, and 12 national languages. Mali's everyday culture reflects the country's geographic and ethnic diversity. Malians are known for their colorful boubous or flowing robes. Only this part of Africa produces the bogalanfini cloth.

Mali's food differs depending on where you are in the country. Millet and rice are staples in Malian cuisine. Mali's legal drinking age is 18. Nevertheless, because it is a predominantly Muslim country, locals discourage drinking alcohol, even if it is not illegal. Western restaurants may be found in the larger cities, while the capital city of Bamako offers Vietnamese, Lebanese, Chinese, and Italian cuisines.
