Grassroots Trust is a not-for-profit organisation set up by Zambians to help shape a viable future in the context of a growing population and a fast declining resource base. Productivity in Africa is being undermined by biodiversity loss, desertification and climate change, which are inextricably linked and can be summed up as environmental 'malfunction' which is turn has caused widespread poverty.
Grassroots Trust engages with land owners - often through Traditional Authorities or local groups - to stimulate discussion over natural resource and environmental management. It also engages with policy makers and CSOs where appropriate. It's goal is to mobilise collective action to restore Zambia's soil-based natural resource economy.
This wonderful song: MAMA ZAMBIA - Uwa Yemba Africa (which in Chibemba means "Beautiful Africa") is aimed at influencing listeners to restore their OWN relationship with nature and embrace the deep traditional values that made Africa the most diverse place on earth, socially, environmentally and culturally.
