MOZAMBIQUE vs GHANA Live Stream AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS - AFCON Football
Everything is on the line for both Mozambique (FIFA rank: #113) and Ghana (FIFA rank: #60) in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as both teams ended round two with one point after drawing 2-2 with Egypt and losing to Cape Verde. Mozambique are bottom of Group B with an inferior goal difference to Ghana, meaning they must win to give themselves the best chance of progressing.
That still might not be enough as an Egypt victory over Cape Verde would see the Mambas only able to reach third place in the group at best, subsequently handing them a nervous wait to see whether they qualify as one of the four best third-placed sides. Adding to what could be a pessimistic mood among Conde Chiquinho’s men, Mozambique have never defeated Ghana (D2, L4), failing to score in four of those encounters.
Four-time AFCON winners Ghana have done little to suggest a fifth triumph is around the corner after conceding twice in both group games (D1, L1). Defensive woes have blighted Ghana for a while, contributing to them winning just one of their last seven internationals (D2, L4), which is hardly cause for optimism as they chase their first appearance in the knockouts since 2019.
As no team reached the knockouts with fewer than three points in 2022, the Black Stars must push to maintain that unbeaten H2H record to keep their hopes alive. History is at least on their side, as their only win across their last 11 AFCON matches (D4, L6) came against another team outside of FIFA’s top-100 (Guinea-Bissau in 2019).
Players to watch: Clésio, who netted Mozambique’s second against Egypt, has never lost an international in which he scored (W6, D3), so another strike could be a good omen. Ghana will hope Mohammed Kudus can continue his strong form as his goal against Egypt was his sixth in as many appearances for club and country.
Hot stat: All but one of Ghana’s last six AFCON matches saw both teams score on the day (D2, L4). #mozambique #GHANA #afcon
