The Nairobi expressway has had 95% of its roadwork finished. With the contractor's assurances that the road will open in April, the Kenyan National Highways Authority says it is working on toll costs that will be announced to the public soon, as final preparations are being made to the expressway ahead of its opening.
Finishing touches are being conducted on the 65 billion shilling road project, which is intended to minimize traffic along the congested Waiyaki way and Mombasa roads as its inauguration date approach. The expressway's hard infrastructure has been finished for the most part. Here's a demonstration of how the tolling stations will work.
According to KENHA, they're working on pricing for toll booths. Costs that were published in a section of the newspapers were dismissed, with the company stating that they plan to adjust the rates before the April launch date. There will be 11 interchanges and 27 toll booths along the new 27-kilometer highway. The expressway is planned to reduce the amount of time it takes to travel between Westlands, the city's furthest point, and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Thousands of Kenyans travel between the east and west sides of Nairobi by way of Mombasa Road and Waiyaki Way. They will benefit from the highway once it is built. As you can see, traffic is already backed up on the old road. However, the drive between Westlands, where the highway begins, and Mlolongo, where the expressway finishes, took us 15 minutes.
The road is not operating yet, according to KENHA, and they are merely doing test drives with their employees to measure traffic flow until the route is opened. The administration also states that the original infrastructure that was harmed during the construction of the highway would be repaired when the road is completed. After the road is completed, the developer will manage it for the following 30 years to repay the investment before handing it back to the Kenyan government...
