Divine services for the departed take place three times a year, on the first Sunday of March, July, and November respectively. With this in mind, New Apostolic Christians also pray that souls who have died in an unredeemed state may find salvation in Christ. God's will to redeem encompasses all human beings.
On Sunday the 5th of March 2023, Apostle Gavin van der Hoven conducted the first divine service for the departed for the year 2023, in Silvertown, Athlone in Cape Town. During this divine service the hymn “Come, ye disconsolate” for soprano, tenor, choir and organ was performed.

A biblical foundation for the hymn is found in 2 Corinthians 1, especially verses 3-7, beginning with, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.”

Composed by Adam Geibel; arr. John Rodriques
Soprano: Christine Siljeur
Tenor: Adrian Manchest
Organist: Tristan Williams
Silvertown congregation choir
Conducted by Jason Atherton
