In South East Nigeria, the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has reported that security operatives discovered 50 decomposing corpses, including 20 headless bodies, and numerous skeletons during a raid of the forest surrounding the Lokpanta Cattle Market on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Motorway. The governor further revealed that the cattle market was being used as a point for collecting ransoms by kidnappers.

Governor Otti has pledged that his administration is committed to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in Abia State, vowing not to allow any part of the state to remain under the control of criminals. He emphasised that the decision to transform the cattle market into a daily market was not directed at any particular ethnic group but aimed at enhancing the security of the market and its host community.
