Thembekile Prisca Tshabalala, better known as "Mama Prisca," had given birth to her son Nkanyezi - who would later be diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and numerous other disabilities.

In her quest for knowledge, and in honor of her son (who had passed away in 2001), Mama Prisca brought together the mothers of the community and formed the Nkanyezi Stimulation Centre. Located in the Orlando West region of Soweto, South Africa - this centre is the only school in all of Soweto for children with multiple disabilities.

However, resources are still limited, funding is almost nonexistent, and in an area as large as Soweto (approx 150 sq km, with a population of 1.3 Million), lack of transportation is a major concern.

Taken from the documentary "Voiced: South Africa." Directed and Edited by Graham Howes. Featuring Emily Sheldon. © 2009/2010 WombatPathe Productions
