NYU Africa House Reflections on Tanzania in Honor of Professor Benno J. Ndulu
This seminar is held in honor of Professor Benno J. Ndulu, Former Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania and NYU Africa House Visiting Scholar (2018), who passed away in February 2021.
In 2018, NYU Africa House had the pleasure to host Professor Benno J. Ndulu as a Visiting Scholar shortly after he completed a 10-year term as Governor of the Central Bank of Tanzania. At the time, he was the Mwalimu Nyerere Professorial Chair on Development at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. He is best known for having served as one of the pioneers for the most effective research and training network in economics in Africa, the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), where he served first as its Research Director and then as its Executive Director. He started his career in academia at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, then worked at the World Bank as a Research Manager in Development Economics and Advisor to the Vice President for the Africa Region. Professor Ndulu has published widely on Africa's growth, governance, and trade. His contributions to Africa and African scholarship will carry on for generations to come.
