Political parties welcome extension of Social Relief of Distress grant

Some political parties have welcomed the extension of the R350 Social Relief of Distress grant, but are worried about the funding of the grant, which benefits over eight million South Africans. During yesterday's Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, said government will continue to provide the grant until 2025. The grant was first introduced at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to help assist poverty-stricken citizens.
