African women of today are tenacious and diverse. Africa has produced female leaders such as Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first democratically-elected woman president in Liberia, Meaza Ashenafi, the first female Chief Justice of Ethiopia, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, Namibia, President Sahle-Work Zewde, Ethiopia

But despite this growth, equality is still far off, and progress on women’s participation in decision-making is too slow. Data from UN women shows that Only six countries have 50 percent or more women in parliament.

GUEST
Hon. Odhiambo, Millie Grace Akoth. She originally trained as a lawyer, and has been a member of parliament since 2008. She was first nominated and later elected as a Member of Mbita Constituency, (now Suba North Constituency).
