President Wavel Ramkalawan who is currently heading a delegation on an overseas mission in Brussels, Belgium met with members of the Seychellois community living and working in Belgium on yesterday evening (Friday 18 February 2022).

Addressing them, the President expressed how honoured he was to host this gathering with the Seychellois in Brussels and to have the opportunity to interact and exchange views. The President highlighted examples of Seychellois professionals living abroad who have committed to donate their expertise and time to help in the development of Seychelles, hence he made a special appeal to the dispora in Brussels to follow suit for the betterment of Seychelles.

“Thank you for coming today, it is very heart warming to share this moment with you all. As you know, since taking office we have put emphasis on the role each and every Seychellois can play in the advancement of our country. We all have a patriotic duty to help push our country forward,” said President Ramkalawan.

The meeting with the Head of State was an opportunity for the members present to discuss how the Seychelles diaspora can contribute and play a greater role in the development of Seychelles. The President shared with them his aspirations for Seychelles and the progress made since assuming office.

Also present was the Designated Minister, Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Mr. Jean-Francois Ferrari, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegone, and the Seychelles Ambassador accredited to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, Ms. Beryl Samson

President Ramkalawan visits Seychelles Embassy in Brussels, Belgium

President Wavel Ramkalawan accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, yesterday also paid a visit to the Seychelles Embassy in Brussels.

The delegation was welcomed at the embassy by the Seychelles Ambassador accredited to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, Ms Beryl Samson for a tour of the offices and a full briefing on the operations of the Embassy.

Ambassador Samson presented the delegation with an overview of how the embassy has had to adapt its operations during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Key active dossiers and priority areas for Seychelles were also discussed.

The President commended the team for the excellent work they were doing and urged them to remain connected with the realities happening in Seychelles and with the Ministry so as to ensure maximum efficiency.

The visit was also an opportunity for the President and Minister Radegonde to interact with the embassy staff.

The Seychelles Embassy also hosted a lunch in honour of the President in the presence of the two Belgian Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Gustaaf Van den Borne for the Flemish Region and Mr Jaques Mortelmans for the Brussels Capital and Wallonia Regions. The meeting was an opportunity for the President to highlight and discuss possibility for key projects in which the Honorary Consuls could engage and potentially support Seychelles with.
