This color promotional film from the fateful (by Winchester standards, anyway) year of 1964 showcases newly released Winchester sporting arms demonstrated by professional hunter David Ommanney (1931 - 2001) and Winchester Western district manager Thomas Lynott (1916 - 2006) as they undertake a five-week long African safari. Winchester firearms shown include a Model 70 bolt-action rifle, a Model 255 .22 Magnum lever-action rife, a Model 1200 pump-action shotgun, a Model 101 over/under shotgun, and a Model 1400 semi-automatic shotgun. Produced by Francis Carter Wood, Jr. Presented by Winchester Western, filmed in East Africa with the cooperation of Ker, Downey &. Selby Safaris, Ltd.

The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was a prominent American maker of firearms, founded by Oliver Winchester in 1866, and located in New Haven, Connecticut. The company was most well known for its Model 1873 lever-action rifle, marketed as "The Gun That Won the West." By the 1960s, however, the rising cost of skilled labor was making it increasingly unprofitable to produce Winchester's classic designs, and the result was a new line of guns that replaced most of the older products in 1963–1964. The immediate reaction of the shooting press and public was overwhelmingly negative: the popular verdict was that Winchester had sacrificed quality and was no longer considered to be a prestige brand, causing a marked loss of market share. To this day, gun collectors consider "post-’64" Winchesters to be both less desirable and less valuable than their predecessors.

David Ommanney was a professional hunter who was born in Jalgaon, India in 1931. As a boy he met retired tiger hunter Jim Corbett. Dave joined Lawrence Brown & Lunan Safaris in 1952 as an apprentice and eventually won the East African Professional Hunters Award in 1958. The following year he was seriously wounded by a leopard, with a chunk of flesh torn out of his shoulders and arms.
