PUBLIC TOILET AFRICA Clip – 2023 New African Film Festival
Closing Night
PUBLIC TOILET AFRICA [AMANSA TIAFI]
Thurs, March 30, 7:00 p.m.
Ghanaian filmmaker Kofi Ofosu-Yeboah's feature debut is a smart and satirical road trip through Ghana, which paints a dreamlike portrait of a country wrestling with the specters of colonialism. When reticent Ama (Briggitte Appiah) returns to the city where she was gifted to a white art collector as a little girl, her quest to seek revenge and reclaim her stolen childhood quickly goes into a tailspin when she recruits an ex-lover (David Klu) on her mission. Escaping the city on a remote country road, their journey is beset with a series of bizarre encounters as their fate is tied to that of two passengers they pick up. (Note adapted from Locarno Film Festival.) Official Selection, 2021 Locarno Film Festival and 2022 SXSW Film Festival. DIR/SCR/PROD Kofi Ofosu-Yeboah. Ghana, 2021, color, 95 min. In English, Twi, Ewe, Ga and Polish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
