Senegalese security forces used tear gas to disperse crowds that had gathered in the capital Dakar on Sunday to protest against the postponement of the presidential election, which was triggered after a dispute over the candidate list. Around 200 protesters blocked traffic on a main road in Dakar using a makeshift barricade and burnt tyres. The protestors retreated into side streets after riot police fired tear gas and started making arrests. Senegal has never delayed a presidential vote and uncertainty about what happens next threatens to fuel civil unrest.
