Somalia joins East African community

The East African Community has formally admitted Somalia as a member of the regional bloc. The decision came during the 23rd ordinary meeting of heads of state in Arusha Tanzania. Somalia becomes the eighth EAC member state after Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, DRC, Rwanda, and Burundi. Somalia first applied to join the EAC in 2012 but the verification process has taken some time for various reasons.
