(13 Feb 1994) Zulu leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi warned his followers in a speech
on Sunday (13/2) that his Inkatha Freedom Party's opposition to
South Africa's first all-race elections could bring death and
bloodshed. Meanwhile, on the boundary of Tokoza and
Katlehong townships several thousand people turned out for an ANC
peace rally to celebrate the replacement of the Internal Stability
Division by the South African Defence Force. Also, 11 of
the 12 victims of last week's massacre in Masangazane, Richmond,
were buried Sunday. A 21-year-old Phatheni man has been arrested and
appeared in the Richmond Magistrate's Court. Mlamuli Phoswa was
remanded until February 15, pending investigations. Police said
more arrests were expected soon.
