South Africa’s ruling party has suffered huge losses in local elections. The African National Congress is still leading overall, but the party of Nelson Mandela is seeing its worst electoral performance since the end of apartheid, with about 90% of ballots counted. Political analysts say voters are frustrated with the country's high unemployment and rampant political corruption. Results in Johannesburg, the country's largest city and economic hub, as well as the area around Pretoria, the capital, are too close to call where the opposition democratic alliance is looking to make an inroad. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart gets an update from VOA’s Anita Powell, who is in South Africa.
