Tanzania's exports to Africa increase by 11.8% in 2020, negotiations for Bagamoyo port to resum

The East African Business Council says Tanzania's exports to African countries were worth 2.27 billion US dollars in 2020, an increase of 11.8% compared to the previous year. This comes as the country seeks to increase its volume of trade with other African countries following its recent ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Tanzanian government says it will soon announce the start of negotiations for a multi-billion dollar Special Economic Zone (SEZ) located in its coastal town of Bagamoyo which includes the construction of East Africa's largest port. The project had stalled under the country's previous administration because of some reservations it had about some of its aspects.
