A study by the South African Development Community Secretariat estimated that transport inefficiencies cost African economies R3.3 trillion ($170 billion) annually. This is caused by a series of factors, including the lack of harmonisation of standards and regulations in the sector, which is hindered when it comes to efficient transport flows.
