US says Rwanda, DRC should stop conflict
Rwanda and the DRC must return from the brink of war. That's the message from the United States when the United Nations Security Council convened over the growing instability in the eastern regions of the DRC.
The head of MONUSCO, the UN Peacekeeping Mission, described it as a "deeply worrisome situation".
The emergency session of the Council was called by France as violence escalates in regions bordering Rwanda, most notably between the Kigali-backed Tutsi-led M23 rebels, and Congolese armed force back by MONUSCO.
The UN has warned that the recent surge in violence risks a regional conflict that could draw in a SADC force which includes South African troops, recently deployed to help quell violence in the east.
