In Africa with 55 countries, countless initiatives follow their visions of a prosperous Africa for everyone. The resurgence of social protest movements, environmental and climate activists, feminist women's networks, local peace initiatives, digital start-ups, creative art centers and critical intellectuals are an expression of these aspirations.

Africans Rising, the pan-African network of social protest movements for justice, peace and dignity is based on the Kilimanjaro Declaration. Africans Rising unites thousands of activists struggling in their respective national or local contexts for a better world for all. Kumi Naidoo, the former Director of Greenpeace and Amnesty Int’l, calls Africans Rising a decentralised network to “stand up for your rights and to overcome African mass traumas.”

At the beginning of the VIDC series of events “Africa. Beyond crises” we invited representatives from Africans Rising as well as from Austrian anti-racist and climate movements to talk to them about their struggles and their dreams.

In the panel discussion, we explored what visions Africans Rising is fighting for and how their struggles are linked to climate and anti-racist movements in Austria.
