🇺🇸 Visited 100 countries, My African Party in Guinea-Bissau:
I visited Guinea Bissau in 2014 and it just happened this was the 100th visited country on my list. I was 33, and although numbers are not important when travelling, I felt I reached a good personal goal.
2 days later it was my 34th birthday and I took a boat to Bubaque, the most popular of the Bijagos Islands, together with a friend met in Senegal the month before. But the best still had to come as we have heard there was an important party on the island of Orango, probably to celebrate an elder person or for the King (it isn't easy to get the right information in this part of the world). It was so difficult to find a boat, sometimes there is only once a week, but somehow we managed to board one and once in Orango we even got to personally meet the King of the Bijagos, it was very weird but interesting.
Travelling isn't about planning and we had to wait 3 days to find a return boat to Bubaque via the island of Uno: I couldn't even imagine ending up celebrating my 100th country with an unexpected party in Orango, as you can watch in this video (I appear almost at the end).
Since a couple of years earlier my trips were getting slower, with longer stays, but this was my real turnover: from Guinea Bissau my travels started to be more relaxed and I became more keen on going back to countries where I had already been. Now my goal is to travel without goal, I want to go to places without hurry. I want to go to places where I have already been but probably I didn't spend enough time and I want to explore new corners of this planet. I dont' want necessarily touch base in all existing countries of the world, it's not a race, I just want to be free.

Ho visitato la Guinea Bissau nel 2014 ed è capitato che questo fosse il paese numero 100 sulla mia lista. Avevo 33 anni e, sebbene i numeri non siano importanti quando si viaggia, sentivo di aver raggiunto un buon obiettivo personale.
2 giorni dopo era il mio 34esimo compleanno e ho preso una barca per Bubaque, la più famosa delle Isole Bijagos, insieme ad un amico conosciuto in Senegal il mese prima. Ma il meglio doveva ancora venire perché abbiamo sentito dire che c'era una festa importante sull'isola di Orango, probabilmente per celebrare una persona anziana o per il Re (non è facile ottenere le giuste informazioni in questa parte del mondo). Era così difficile trovare una barca, a volte ce n'è solo una a settimana, ma in qualche modo siamo riusciti a salire a bordo e una volta ad Orango abbiamo perfino incontrato personalmente il Re delle Bijagos, è stato molto strano ma interessante.
Viaggiare non è una questione di pianificazione e abbiamo dovuto aspettare 3 giorni per trovare una barca di ritorno verso Bubaque passando per l'isola di Uno: senza neanche immaginarlo ho finito per festeggiare il mio centesimo Paese con una festa inaspettata ad Orango, come si puo' vedere in questo video (appaio quasi alla fine ).
Gia' da un paio di anni i miei viaggi stavano diventando più lenti, con soggiorni più lunghi, ma questo è stato il vero giro di boa: dalla Guinea Bissau in poi, ho iniziato ad andare più rilassato e sono diventato piu' propenso a tornare nei Paesi in cui ero già stato. Ora il mio obiettivo è viaggiare senza obiettivi, voglio andare in posti senza fretta. Voglio andare in posti dove sono già stato ma forse non ho passato abbastanza tempo e voglio esplorare nuovi angoli del pianeta. Non voglio necessariamente toccare tutti i paesi del mondo, non è una gara, voglio solo essere libero.
