A trip to Djibouti, East Africa (long post)…
1. On the 8 November I was part of a delegation that embarked on a trip to Djibouti, east of Africa to represent SA at an African fashion event.
2. The first time I heard about Djibouti was when my friend Reshy Chawane asked me to be part of her SA team for this trip. Before then, I had no idea such a place even existed🥴🥴. I googled it, it didn't even sound interesting 😅😆😴!
3. My initial response to Righteous asking me to go with her was to turn her down🙈. The place sounded like it wasn't interesting at all😵💫, I didn't want to travel with complete strangers(there would be 7 of us)...I also wasn't really in the fashion space at the time as I'd taken a break. In my head all these were reason enough to turn her down. That is, until I had a chat with myself: "Akho, this is an all expense paid trip out of the country to somewhere you’ve never been before, is your fear of the unknown gonna really prevent you from going🧐?!! What’s your comfort zone gonna do for you here gyhel!?!"...so I snapped out of it and went back to her to tell her I'd love to go with!
4. I'm usually VERY fussy about who I go on trips with, this would be my very first time traveling with complete strangers😬😑(for an entire week nogal!). I'm also not too great with making new friends, so yheyi...this part had me anxious I'm not gonna lie😅😆! Man, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GROUP OF HUMANS😍!! We gelled right from the get-go when we landed in Djibouti. There was great camaraderie amongst us, we developed inside jokes, we became like family...in fact I think the epicness of the trip was mostly because of WHO I was with❤️.
