A huge party has been underway to mark 40 years in power for Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan Leader and the longest serving leader in both Africa and the Arab world.
Washington will be watching those celebrations closely.
Just a couple of weeks ago, other celebrations for the release of the Lockerbie bomber angered many Americans and its not so long ago that Colonel Gaddafi was public enemy number one for others.
Al Jazeera's Clayton Swisher reports on how the United States is now looking to Libya to help solve some of Africa's biggest problems.
