BACKGROUND:

Working with a mass of entrepreneurs in Africa through supporting them to
acquire funding and build empires that change livelihoods. Identifying with most
of their challenges drove the desire to start SocEnt Media in 2019. We are a media
that seeks to offer a platform for youth innovators/entrepreneurs with a space to
share their innovation as well as /tell their stories to the rest of the world.
For years, Uganda’s business world has been with dramatics in the sense that many
enterprises in Uganda start very well but, on the way, they collapse without clear
reasons of the exact cause of their collapse. Besides this, there are many young
people all over the country that are talented in the business field but they are not
successful for some reasons like lack of exposure, limited or no access to
resources, lack of or limited skills in terms of business management and
administration, entrepreneurship, saving skills and many others. It is an alarm that
those young people who may have the skills have them in the theoretical form but
they lack the practicability of whatever they presume to know. The UN explains
under its SDG1 (No Poverty) that extreme poverty rates have fallen by more than
half since 1990. While this is a remarkable achievement, one in five people in
developing regions still live on less than $1.90 a day (Roughly 7,030 Ugx).
Millions more make little more than this daily amount and are at risk of slipping
back into extreme poverty. Sadly enough, there are individuals especially on the
slum areas of Kampala Capital City and Uganda at Large who even survive on as
low as 40 cents (scenario of Joyce Kigem story- told on Aljazeera by Lydia
Namubiru).
This then directly communicates why SEtv Africa was founded targeting the
Youth. It is to empower the Youth into the sphere of Business and
Entrepreneurship so as to become financially free hence eradication of poverty
through creation of jobs and the raise in household income. This shall be done
through empowerment both in terms of Knowledge, exposure, mentorship among
others to the target masses through the above five segments of SEtv Africa
