Uganda is a landlocked country located in Eastern Africa that borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Tanzania. The terrain is mostly plateau with a rim of mountains and a southeastern border on Lake Victoria. The capital and largest city is Kampala. Other major cities include Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Entebbe, and Gulu, all except for Gulu located in the south of the country. The government system is a republic and the chief of state and head of government is the president. Uganda has a mixed economic system in which there is a variety of private freedom, combined with centralized economic planning and government regulation. The official languages spoken here are English and Swahili, although any other language may be used as a medium of instruction in schools or other educational institutions or for legislative, administrative or judicial purposes as may be prescribed by law.
