West Coast Ghosts - A Short Film about Mining on South Africa's West Coast
Premiered at the Wavescape Surf and Ocean Festival on 6 March 2022, this film directed by Warrick Leach, aims to create awareness of the destructive mining activities that are tearing up the West Coast of South Africa without the oversight of the negative impacts on the environment and communities living here. These mining activities are ruining coastal ecosystems, and adversely affecting local fishing communities. West Coast Ghosts features Oslan Tuter, an impoverished fisherman from Papendorp, who has experienced the effects of mining all around his home.
