The main opposition in Zimbabwe Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has demanded new elections after Emmerson Mnangagwa defeated their candidate for president in a contest they criticized as being rigged and unlawful.

The African Union (AU) and the regional grouping in southern Africa were invited to assist in mediating a resolution to the situation that followed last Wednesday's vote by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

International observers said the vote fell short of democratic standards.
Balloting was troubled by delays, purportedly caused by the printing of ballot papers that forced voting to spill into a second unprecedented day.
